Katana's Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative
Katana’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan has seen us launching a number of initiatives aiming to improve the environment, benefit the community, minimise risk and increase our operational efficiency.
At Katana our CSR extends far beyond undertaking some non-commercial activities in the hope of improving our corporate image. We believe that Katana is responsible not just to its shareholders but also to other groups or people who are affected by or can affect the activities of Katana. The recognition of these relationships highlight the necessity to maintain a balance between the needs and well being of the organisation, its employees, the community and other stakeholders. These relationships present a dynamic situation, which dictate that our CSR is an ongoing process rather than a ‘tick box’ exercise and is monitored and constantly adapted to meet the changes taking place both inside and outside Katana.
Katana’s CSR programme has been integrated into mainstream operations in four main ways:
- Social progress which recognises the needs of everyone
- Effective protection of the environment
- Prudent use of natural resources
- Maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth and employment.
Katana will promote and monitor continual improvement by:
- Screening its policies and proposals for sustainable development and/or environmental impacts.
- Mitigating such impacts wherever practicable, and maintaining records of all screenings and actions undertaken.
- Undertaking full environmental appraisals where particularly significant impacts are identified.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and codes of practice.
- Reviewing its sustainable development policy regularly and encouraging its suppliers to comply
- Establishing continual improvement targets, against which performance can be measured and monitored.
- Educating and motivating staff and contractors to operate in an environmentally responsible manner and to conserve resources wherever practicable.
- Ensuring that employees are aware of sustainable development issues and that they are provided with opportunities to develop the competencies and capabilities to meet the future needs of the organisation and its stakeholders.
- Katana aim to address and improve its environmental performance (taking account of value for money through whole life costs) by:.
- Conserving energy, water, paper and other resources, whilst providing a comfortable working environment.
- Specifying energy and other products from sustainable sources, and using refurbished and recycled products and materials where available.
- Reducing waste through reduction, re-use and recycling; reducing the waste going to landfill.
- Benchmarking performance to measure efficiency against recognised best in industry practice.
- Katana has recently also been recognised by the green achiever scheme.
